Case Study: Whole-Home Window Replacement in Midland, TX
A 1998-build Midland house with original aluminum single-pane windows. The energy-bill math told the whole story.
Project: Whole-home replacement window upgrade (12 windows)
Location: Midland, TX
Product: Simonton vinyl with Low-E glass
Timeline: 1 day install
The house
A 1998-build single-story Midland home with the original aluminum single-pane windows still in place. Twelve windows total, including a large picture window in the front living room and four bedroom windows on the south-facing wall — the worst possible orientation for a Permian Basin summer.
Why the homeowner finally pulled the trigger
The homeowner had been thinking about replacing the windows for three or four years but kept putting it off because of the upfront cost. The thing that finally pushed her over the edge: her August electric bill had crept past $400 again, and she could feel a noticeable temperature gradient in the rooms with the worst windows even when the AC was running flat-out.
The product choice
We walked her through both Andersen and Simonton options. For her budget and the size of the project, the Simonton Platinum Prism series with Low-E glass made the most sense — full warranty support, an SHGC well under 0.30 for the south-facing units, and a U-factor of 0.30 across the board. Every window included Low-E as standard.
Install day
Our crew arrived at 8:30 AM. Twelve windows came out and twelve new units went in over the course of one workday. Each opening was checked for water damage and weatherstripped properly before the new unit was set, and every interior trim piece was reinstalled before the crew left.
The energy bill, six months later
The homeowner sent us a thank-you email the following October showing her August bill had dropped by roughly 28% year-over-year despite a hotter summer than the previous one. The temperature gradient near the south-facing windows was gone. At her current usage trend, the windows pay for themselves in about six and a half years on energy savings alone — before counting the resale value bump on a Midland home that now has modern, code-compliant windows.
